GM Plans to Double its Number of 40 MPG Vehicles by 2017

General Motors is planning on doubling the number of vehicles in its lineup that have over 40 MPG from four to eight by 2017.

General Motors is planning on doubling the number of vehicles in its lineup that have over 40 MPG from four to eight by 2017. GM currently has the the Chevrolet Cruze Eco, Sonic, Volt and Spark EV that all get over 40 MPG and in the near future the Chevy Cruze Diesel and 2014 Cadillac ELR will join the list.
Today’s announcement was part of GM’s Sustainability Report that also revealed that the automaker plans to improve the gas mileage of its entire lineup by 18 percent by 2016. “Sustainability is not only a key part of how GM is shifting from a good to great company, it is about the leadership and innovation that can transform the auto industry,” GM Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson stated. “Our long-term approach to sustainability enables us to increase efficiency and re-imagine personal mobility to best meet customer needs and lifestyles.”
