It’s being reported that GM is boosting production of its Chevy Volt and Opel Ampera plug-in hybrid models this year by 20 percent to a total 36,000 units. Sources confirmed with Automotive News that GM plans to build 1,500 to 3,000 a month this year.
The ramped up production shows that sales of the Volt and Ampera are improving from the slow sales last year that lead to production shut downs. Early next year GM is going to introduce the 2014 Cadillac ELR plug-in hybrid, which borrows its powertrain from the Volt.
