GM Hints at More Powerful Camaro V6 to Beat Mustang

The 2011 Ford Mustang V6 is finally getting a much needed power boost thanks to a new 305-hp 3.7L V6, which means that it now has more power than the 2010 Camaro V6. On top of that, the Mustang also gets better gas mileage. But now it looks like the Mustang’s lead may be short lived according to Chevrolet Camaro and Corvette marketing manager John Fitzpatrick.

The 2011 Mustang puts out exactly one more horsepower than the Camaro V6 305 vs 304, but according to Fitzpatrick, that could soon change. The Camaro SS already has a power advantage over the 2011 GT at 426-hp vs 412-hp. When asked if Chevy is going to respond to the numbers challenge in the next couple of years, Fitzpatrick told Automobile, “you might see it sooner than that.” Details on the 2011 Camaro are expected in the next few weeks. It shouldn’t be that hard to beat the Mustang’s horsepower numbers, but we’ll have to wait and see if Chevy can also match the Mustang’s 31 mpg on the highway.
