GM has reportedly canceled plans for a ultraluxury Cadillac sedan. GM’s execs recently decided that the rear-wheel-drive sedan that would have been priced over $100,000 would have been a low-volume model that didn’t offer enough “brand-building pizzazz” to justify its development.
GM is still working on a new flagship sedan that will compete with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7 Series models. According to one source the ultraluxury Cadillac sedan would not a big enough departure from the large sedan that is already in the works. There have been rumors of an exotic Cadillac sedan ever since the Sixteen concept debuted in Detroit in 2003. The Ciel concept from 2011 also was supposed to be a hint at a future Cadillac large sedan. One source says that elements from the Ciel are being integrated into the S-Class and 7 Series fighter.
