We’re still a few years away until the Ford Bronco makes a comeback, but Ford has reportedly had a hard time nailing down the design of the new Bronco.

The new Ford Bronco will only have four doors

Ford’s management team has already rejected two design proposals for the resurrected Bronco, with one design rejected “because they feel it looks too much like a Wrangler,” an unnamed engineer revealed to Gear Patrol. The engineer went on to reveal that Ford has finally decided on a design that will apparently look like a four-door version of Troller T4 SUV that is sold in Brazil.

The sad news is that a two door version of the new Bronco has been ruled out since “there’s just no market for it.” The Bronco will have a removable modular roof, similar to the Jeep Wrangler.

Although Ford doesn’t want the Bronco to look too much like the Jeep Wrangler, the automaker actually used it as a benchmark. “They want it comparable [to the Wrangler] in every way, except rock crawling. But that’s based on some of the concerns with the frame.” The issues with the frame stem from the fact that the Bronco will be based on the Ford Ranger’s platform, which isn’t entirely ideal for hard core off-roading.

The new Bronco is expected to get a 2.7L EcoBoost V6 engine with around 325 horsepower and a hybrid version could eventually be added. One model that isn’t in the works, is a Raptor version of the new Bronco.

Hopefully we’ll get a lot more concrete details as we get closer to the Bronco’s 2020 arrival.
