The electric Ford F-150 is here with the debut of the 2022 F-150 Lightning, which is huge news. The most best selling vehicle in the US will now be offered with a fully electric version.
The Ford F-150 Lightning will only be available in one body style: SuperCrew four-door with a 5.5-foot bed. It will be available in XLT, Lariat, and Platinum trim levels. There’s also a version that’s more geared for commercial use.
There will be two battery packs to choose from, either a standard-range or extended-range. The base battery pack gives the F-150 Lightning 230 miles of range, while the extended-range version has up to 300 miles of range.
The electric pickup comes standard with a dual-motor powertrain and four-wheel drive. The standard-range has 426 horsepower, while the extended-range has 563 hp. Both versions have 775 pound-feet of torque. Ford says that the extended-range version can accelerate from 0-60 mph in the mid-4 second range.
The standard-range has a maximum tow rating of 7,000 pounds, while the extended-range version can tow up to 10,000 pounds. The standard-range version has a payload capacity of 2,000 pounds and the extended-range has a 1,800 pound payload capacity.
To charge the F-150 Lightning, it comes standard with a 32-amp mobile charge, while a 48-amp charger is optional. The extended-range F-150 Lightning comes standard with an 80-amp charger. Using a 240-volt outlet with the 32-amp charger, it will take either 14 or 19 hours to recharge. The 48-volt amp cuts those charging times to 10 and 13 hours. The 80-amp charger takes 10 hours to recharge the standard-range battery and 8 hours to charge the extended-range battery.
You can also plug it into a DC fast charger, which will charge the battery up to 80 percent in as little as 41 minutes.
The F-150 Lighting can also act as a power source, which has 2.4 kW of power that can be accessed via eight 120-volt AC outlets. The upper trim levels have 9.6 kW of power, which includes an additional two 120-volt outlets and a 240-volt outlet in the bed.
Inside there’s a 12-inch digital instrument cluster and an available 15.5-inch touchscreen. Ford’s new BlueCruise hands-free highway driving tech will also be available.
The F-150 Lightning XLT starts at $52,974 before any federal or state tax incentives. The commercial-oriented entry model starts at $39,974. Production is scheduled to start in Spring 2022, but you can reserve one now.
