Ford has unveiled the 2019 Ford Ranger Raptor – the off-road hungry version. The first ever Ranger Raptor debuted at an event in Thailand. Not only is this the first ever Ranger Raptor, but it also debuted with a new turbocharged 2.0L diesel engine.
“We are so excited and proud to unleash this vehicle to the public, driving it really makes you feel like a hero,” said Jamal Hameedi, chief engineer, Ford Performance. “The Ford Performance team is excited to extend the Raptor name from our flagship off-road performance F-150 to Ranger. Just like the F-150 Raptor, the Ranger Raptor builds upon the core capability of the range of vehicles it comes from and carries the unmistakable Ford Performance DNA appearance.”
The Ranger Raptor borrows many styling cues from its big brother, the F-150 Raptor, including its grille with the large block FORD lettering. Other upgrades include dent-resistant front bumpers, its ground clearance has increased to 11-inches and a Fox Racing Shox shock absorbers. The 2019 Ranger Raptor also rides on all-terrain BF Goodrich 285/70 R17 tires that have been specially developed for the Ranger Raptor.
Under the hood the 2.0L twin-turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine generates 210 horsepower and 369 lb-ft. of torque. The four-cylinder is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The Ranger Raptor we’re seeing today is the Asia Pacific market version of the truck, so we’ll have to wait and see what changes the truck gets for North America. Specifically what will power it.
