Select the 2018 Mustang’s new Drag Strip mode and the 2018 Ford Mustang GT will reach 60 mph in under four seconds – faster than a Porsche 911 Carrera. Thanks to the new Drag Strip mode, the 2018 Mustang GT is now the fastest Mustang GT ever built.

The 2018 Mustang GT has several upgrades, like more horsepower and torque output from the redesigned 5.0-liter V8, a new 10-speed automatic transmission and available custom-designed Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires.

The Mustang V8’s 5.0-liter V8 now features dual-fuel, high-pressure direct injection and low-pressure port fuel injection technology. The V8 now generates 460 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque, which is nice improvement over the 2017 Mustang GT’s 435 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft.

“Typically, when you shift gears, you give up time,” said Carl Widmann, Mustang chief engineer. “In Drag Strip mode, the engine torque doesn’t drop when you’re shifting. You get peak engine torque and horsepower straight through thanks to our new Ford-built 10-speed transmission.”

The 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder has also been upgraded and now generates 310 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque – a 30 lb.-ft. gain over the current model. In Drag Strip mode with Performance Package and the 10-speed automatic, the 2018 EcoBoost Mustang has a 0-to-60-mph time of under five seconds.

The Drag Strip mode is one of five driving modes available for the 2018 Mustang and it has been designed to provide maximum acceleration and performance for straight-line driving. Drag Strip mode is primarily controlled by the transmission to deliver a significant acceleration boost by eliminating the lost time usually associated with automatic shifting.

“Gearing matters, and in Drag Strip mode, this car launches better than ever off the line,” said Widmann.
