Ford has announced that the 2018 Ford Expedition has received a five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The 2018 Expedition is the only vehicle in its segment to get the highest safety rating from NHTSA.

Ford attributes the 2018 Expedition’s five-star safety rating partly to its new fully boxed steel frame and high-strength, military-grade, aluminum-alloy body. The new aluminum-alloy body helped reduce the 2018 Expedition’s weight by 325 pounds, which lowered its center of gravity for improved stability and driving dynamics.

Inside the 2018 Expedition also has dual seat belt pyrotechnic pretensioners in the anchor and retractor, which helps keep occupants in place in the event of a crash. To help prevent a crash altogether, the 2018 Expedition offers driver assist systems like, Cross-Traffic Alert, Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection, auto high beams and enhanced active park assist.
