Ford has announced that it is planning to nearly double production of the F-150 Lighting electric pickup to 150,000 units a year at its Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn, Michigan.
“With nearly 200,000 reservations, our teams are working hard and creatively to break production constraints to get more F-150 Lightning trucks into the hands of our customers,” said Kumar Galhotra, president of The Americas & International Markets Group, Ford Motor Company. “The reality is clear: People are ready for an all-electric F-150 and Ford is pulling out all the stops to scale our operations and increase production capacity.”
Ford is also going to let the first wave of reservation holders for the F-150 Lightning start converting their reservations to orders. Reservation holders will be invited in phases to place their order over the next few months, but those that don’t get an invitation for the 2022 F-150 Lightning will have the opportunity to order a 2023 model.
Production of the F-150 Lighting is about to kick off, since Ford has also announced that it is now in the final phase of pre-production.
