With a new CEO at the helm, Lincoln could finally get the love it needs. Ford’s new CEO, Mark Fields has reportedly committed to overhauling the Lincoln brand, which could see Ford spend at least $5 billion over the next five years on new Lincoln models.
“It’s really important for us to have a relevant and vibrant luxury brand,” Fields told Reuters on Friday. “You need to make the investment and build this brand over time.”

Fields did not reveal any of the plans, but part of the investment will reportedly go into a new platform that will underpin several Lincoln models. The new platform, which is known internally as D6 will be the basis for several sedans and crossovers starting in 2019. Ford execs have also revealed that there’s a goal in place to triple the brand’s sales to 300,000 vehicles a year by 2020.

In the past two years Ford has spent around $2 billion on the Lincoln brand, with half of that investment used to prepare for Lincoln’s arrival in China.
