GM and Ram offer unique tailgate designs for their pickups that gives users the ability to configure it for different needs. Now it looks like Ford may also be working on an alternative to the traditional tailgate for its trucks.
Ford recently filed a trademark for the “Flexbed” name with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, which hints that the F-150 may soon get a configurable tailgate. The patent says that the Ford Flexbed is an “organizational system for cargo area of vehicles” which most likely means that it will be a rival to GMC’s MultiPro and Ram’s Multifunction tailgates. The 2021 Chevy Silverado also received the Multi-Flex tailgate, which is similar to the tailgate offered on the GMC Sierra.
Right now Ford has not made any announcements about the Flexbed, so we’ll have to wait and see what it’s working on.
