Ferrari is introducing two limited edition models, called the Monza SP1 and SP2 that are part of the brand’s new Icona series, which are inspired by Ferrari’s racing barchettas from the past, like the the 1948 166 MM.
The Ferrari Monza SP1 is just for one, since it’s a single seat model, while the Monza SP2 removes the tonneau cover to make room for another passenger. According to Ferrari, the Monza SP1 and SP2 have the best weight-to-power ratio of any barchetta, thanks to the extensive use of carbon fiber. Both models also get the most powerful engine Maranello has ever built, which is a 809-hp 6.5-liter V12.
The V12 gives both models a 0-62 mph time of 2.9 seconds and a top speed over 186 mph. With the absence of a windshield and roof, the Ferrari Monza’s driving experience will definitely be exhilarating. Ferrari compares it to the feeling of “blistering speed” that you only get when driving an F1 car.
To manage the airflow inside the Monza SP1 and SP2, Ferrari created the “Virtual Wind Shield” which has been incorporated into the fairing ahead of the instrument panel and the steering wheel to deviate part of the air flow.
Ferrari hasn’t announced the pricing for the two retro speedsters, but production will be limited. Ferrari is aiming the Monza SP1 and SP2 at “dedicated clients and collectors.”
