Porsche CEO Matthias Mueller recently revealed that the automaker has put the plans for a new entry-level roadster on hold. Mueller told German magazine WirtschaftsWoche, “Possibly we need to wait until the next generation of customers before the idea of a small roadster will work for Porsche.”

Last February Mueller told told Automotive News Europe that the automaker was mulling the idea of a small mid-engine sports car that would be a successor to the Porsche 550 from the 1950s. The model was expected to be released by 2014.

It’s been reported that Porsche was working on a new roadster that would share its platform with the production version of the VW Bluesport concept, but VW may also be killing plans for the Bluesport.

At least there’s an all-new 2013 Boxster coming this summer.
