Now that Chrysler has decided to role up the SRT brand under the Dodge badge, what does that mean for the Chrysler 300 SRT and Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT? Originally it was believed that both models would go away, since they are not Dodge vehicles, but at least one of them is expected to stay around.
Chrysler brand president and CEO Al Gardner recently revealed to Motor Trend, that the 470-hp Chrysler 300 SRT is likely to be discontinued due to slow sales. Out of the 26,000 Chrysler 300s sold through June, only 450 of them wore the SRT badge. With so few 300 SRTs moving off dealer lots, the business case to continue it is hard to justify. A decision about the 300 SRT is expected to be announced in the next few months, most likely when the refreshed 2015 Chrysler 300 debuts this fall.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT is likely to receive a different fate than the 300 SRT, since the Grand Cherokee SRT is actually the best selling SRT model.
