The Chevrolet Sonic is the latest car to die this year, since Chevy has announced that it will end production of the Sonic sedan and hatchback at the end of 2020. With the Sonic dead, GM’s Orion Assembly plant will be retooled to build a new Bolt-based electric crossover, which is reportedly going to be called the Bolt EUV.

2019 Chevy Sonic

A Chevy spokesperson revealed to CNBC that production of the Sonic will end in October 2020. The new Chevy electric crossover is expected to arrive in 2021.

It’s no surprise that the Sonic is being killed, since Chevy has been slowly killing off its sedans and hatchbacks in the US. With the death of the Sonic that leaves only the Malibu and Spark, but they both may not be around much longer. The Malibu is reportedly going to die at the end of the 2023 model year, but we don’t know yet what Chevy has planned for the Spark.

With Chevy killing off its sedans, it joins Buick which has also removed sedans from its US lineup. That means that the only GM brand with sedans will soon be Cadillac.
