Cadillac has unveiled its first mild hybrid – the Cadillac XT5 Mild Hybrid, at the Chengdu Motor Show. The XT5 Mild Hybrid features is powered by a mild hybrid system and a nine-speed automatic transmission.
In China there will be two XT5 mild hybrid versions available, the XT5 28E Platinum 4WD and 28E Advanced 4WD. Cadillac says that the mild hybrid system not only improves the XT5’s fuel efficiency, but it also improves its driving agility and ride comfort.
The mild hybrid system lets the gas engine and electric motor work in tandem as the XT5 picks up speed, to increase power and acceleration. The electric motor recovers excess power as the vehicle cruises on the road, boosting energy efficiency and gathering momentum for the next acceleration. The electric motor also recovers energy when braking.
The nine-speed automatic transmission has been calibrated for driving in an urban environment with lots of traffic. The transmission adds one gear for the low and medium speed range to increase the low-speed gear ratio, allowing the XT5 to move smoothly on congested roads.
The combination of the intelligent mild hybrid system and the latest nine-speed transmission has dramatically reduced fuel consumption to 7.9 liters/100 km.
Pricing for the Cadillac XT5 mild hybrid starts at RMB 539,900 ($81,210 US).
Cadillac hasn’t announced any plans to offer the XT5 mild hybrid in the United States.
