Cadillac is reportedly working on a new compact sedan that will compete with models like the Mercedes-Benz CLA and Audi A3.
Cadillac’s marketing chief Uwe Ellinghaus recently confirmed that the new small rear-wheel-drive sedan is in the works. Instead of introducing a front-wheel-drive sedan like the CLA, Cadillac remains committed to rear-wheel-drive, even the small sedan.

“Our future is rear-wheel drive and, of course, all-wheel drive where appropriate. My personal crusade is to spare us a hell of a lot of dilution of our emerging brand image by moving to front-wheel drive for potential smaller cars,” Ellinghaus stated.

The new small sedan is expected to share the same Alpha platform that underpins the ATS and CTS models. It will only be powered by four-cylinder engines, but will probably not be introduced until sometime in 2016.
