Cadillac Green Lights a Rear-Wheel-Drive Flagship Sedan

GM is eager to regain market share in the luxury segment and take on Cadillac’s German competitors. According to Automotive News, GM has given a new Cadillac rear-wheel-drive large sedan the green light.

GM is eager to regain market share in the luxury segment and take on Cadillac’s German competitors. According to Automotive News, GM has given a new Cadillac rear-wheel-drive large sedan the green light.

The new large Cadillac sedan would be built on a new a new rear-wheel-drive platform and would go head to head with the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S Class when it arrives by 2015. Automotive News expects the large sedan to take styling cues from the Ciel concept that was unveiled last year. It may also be powered by Cadillac’s 3.6L V6 in addition to a V8.
Before the new Cadillac flagship arrives, Cadillac is going to release an all-new CTS in the second half of 2013 as a 2014 model. The next CTS will share its Alpha platform with the new ATS and will still be offered in a coupe version. The CTS wagon is likely to disappear when the next-generation CTS debuts.
