With an all-new 2016 Chevy Volt due to be unveiled next year at the Detroit Auto Show, the question now is if GM will introduce a new Cadillac ELR. The next Volt is slated to get its own platform, which could be used for a new Cadillac ELR, but slow sales of the current ELR put its future in doubt.
During a recent interview Cadillac chief engineer Dave Leone stated that it’s too early to tell if there will be a new ELR. With a $75,995 price tag, the Cadillac is having a hard time finding buyers for the ELR. Through July of this year Cadillac has only sold 578 units. It’s been reported that dealers are giving hefty discounts on the ELR with some dealers taking up to $13k off, but Cadillac currently has 1,400 unsold ELRs in its inventory.

“As time draws closer to switching to the new Volt platform, senior management will make a decision about the future of the product,” Leone stated.
