Cadillac’s last convertible, the XLR ended production in 2009 and who doesn’t remember the Allanté convertible from the early 1990’s? Well it looks like Cadillac is working on a new convertible and this time it won’t be an expensive convertible out of reach to most buyers. This time Cadillac is working on a convertible that will start at a much lower price point and that will be based on the upcoming Alpha platform, which is the basis for the 2013 ATS sedan and next-generation CTS.
Instead of just developing a droptop version of either the ATS or CTS, Cadillac is going to position the convertible between both models and give it unique styling. Unlike the BMW 3 Series and Lexus IS convertibles, the upcoming Cadillac convertible will have a softtop like the Audi A5.
Expect the new Cadillac convertible to launch in late 2013 as a 2014 model.
