Back in 2014, BMW took on the electric segment head on with the debut of the i3 and i8 models and now it’s the end of the line for one of them. BMW has confirmed that production of the i8 plug-in hybrid sports car will end this April.

2019 BMW i8

The news about the demise of the BMW i8 comes to us thanks to Motor Authority who confirmed the end date for the i8 with BMW. Since its introduction in 2014, BMW has expanded the lineup with the i8 Roadster, but sales never really took off. In 2019 BMW sold 1,102 units – its third best year.

BMW has yet to confirm it, but there are reports that BMW is working on a replacement for the i8, which BMW might have previewed with last year’s Vision M Next concept.
