BMW and Apple have just made easier to leave your keys at home with a new digital key that does away with the need for traditional car keys. Apple’s new CarKey is part of iOS14 or iOS13.
BMW is the first automaker to partner with Apple to launch its new digital key, which lets drivers tap to unlock their BMW and turn it on without the traditional key. The owner can also give access to their vehicle to up to five friends through Apple Wallet.
So what happens if your iPhone battery runs out of juice if you’re on the go? The digital key will still work for up to five hours after your phone turns off due to a low battery.
The 2021 BMW 5 Series will be the first vehicle to get the digital key, but don’t worry other automakers will begin offering it in 2021 as well.
