BMW May Boost i3 Production Due to Early Strong Demand

The 2014 BMW i3 doesn’t go on sale in Europe until next month, but BMW has already reportedly received more than 8,000 orders for the new electric car.

The 2014 BMW i3 doesn’t go on sale in Europe until next month, but BMW has already reportedly received more than 8,000 orders for the new electric car. BMW originally planned on selling more than 10,000 i3s next year, but due to the early demand, BMW may boost production.

Friedrich Eichiner, BMW’s Chief Financial Officer, stated that “If demand holds, which is what it’s looking like, we will soon have to invest more.”

The i3 goes on sale in Germany on November 16th, followed by the US early next year and then China and Japan. The i3 starts at $41,350.
