BMW is finally ready to rival Tesla with the debut of the BMW i Vision Dynamics concept, which is a sleek four-door electric sedan that could easily rival the Tesla Model 3 and Model S.
The i Vision Dynamics concept is a four-door Gran Coupe with a driving range of 373 miles, a top speed over 120 mph and a 0-62 mph time of only four seconds. BMW says that the concept “offers a look ahead to the e-mobility experience of the future with a new level of sporting elegance.”
BMW needs to expand the BMW i brand beyond the current i3 and i8 models and the i Vision Dynamics concept is a preview of a production vehicle that will sit between both models in the lineup.
“With the i3 and i8 we have designed a revolutionary city car and a revolutionary sports car,” says Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design. “And now the BMW i Vision Dynamics is combining electric mobility with the core values of BMW: dynamism and elegance. We are therefore demonstrating how the product range and the design language of BMW i can be evolved further into other concepts.”
The outline of the BMW i Vision Dynamics represents a further evolution of the classic BMW proportions: a long wheelbase, flowing roofline and short overhangs. At the front the kidney grille also takes a new shape, which is similar to the X7 iPerformance concept, but without the vertical slats.
“Where the BMW kidneys have previously acted as a symbol for the company’s expertise in drive system development, the BMW i Vision Dynamics deploys them as declarations of technological know-how.”
