We’re already used to asking Amazon’s Alexa to do things for us, but starting next year BMW drivers and passengers will start saying a new prompt, “Hey BMW.” BMW has announced that starting in March 2019 its vehicles will be equipped with a new intelligent personal assistant will let the vehicle’s passengers control its functions and access information using voice controls.
BMW’s new Intelligent Personal Assistant will also be able to assist the driver outside their vehicle, whether it’s at home with the help of a smart speaker or out and about via smartphone. It’s also compatible with Amazon Alexa.
BMW’s Intelligent Personal Assistant teams up with the new BMW Operating System 7.0 to create a brand new, digital form of interaction with the customer’s BMW that redefines the whole driving experience,” says Dieter May, Senior Vice President Digital Products BMW Group.
The personal assistant also has the ability to learn routines and habits. The assistant helps the driver, learns their preferences and is familiar with their vehicle settings. The driver can simply state, Hey BMW, I’m cold” and the the Intelligent Personal Assistant will automatically adjust the temperature inside the car.
The Intelligent Personal Assistant is also integrated with Microsoft Office 365 and Skype to turn the vehicle into a mobile office. The driver can easily join a conference call and the assistant will read out emails.
The first vehicles to get the Intelligent Personal Assistant will be the 3 Series, X5, Z4 and 8 Series.
