BMW ActiveHybrid 3 Packs 335 HP and Gets 37 MPG

BMW officially unveiled the all-new 2012 BMW 3 Series sedan on Friday. While the 328i and 335i models return, BMW also unveiled the hybrid version of the 3 Series, dubbed the ActiveHybrid 3.

The BMW ActiveHybrid 3 is powered by the twin-turbocharged 3.0L inline six-cylinder mated to an electric motor and an eight-speed automatic transmission. It puts out a total 335 horsepower and 330 lb-ft. of torque. According to BMW it consumes less than 6.4 liters per 100 kilometers (36.7 mpg) on the EU test cycle.

The ActiveHybrid 3 can drive up to 2.5 miles and at speeds up 37 mph on electric power alone. BMW chose to place the battery in the ActiveHybrid 3 under the floor of the trunk, which means that the rear seat can still be folded down.

The ActiveHybrid 3 will be released in the fall of 2012.
