It’s being reported that Audi has decided to give the Audi R8 e-tron electric car the green light again after it was put on the back burner a year ago. Last year the R8 e-tron was killed by former research and development chief Wolfgang Dürheimer, who wanted Audi to spend its resources on plug-in hybrid models like the A3 e-tron, but now there’s a new boss.
Audi’s Ulrich Hackenberg has reportedly put the plans back on for the R8 e-tron. It also helps that new advancements in lithium-ion battery technology has enabled engineers to increase the R8 e-tron’s range from 134 miles to 250 miles. The R8 e-tron is expected to enter production in the second half of 2014 and will look nearly identical to the standard R8. The R8 e-tron is powered by a 375 horsepower electric motor, giving it a 0-60 mph time around 4.5 seconds.
