A few months ago it was reported that Audi is working on a BMW X6 competitor, dubbed the Audi Q6. Now there are reports that Audi is planning another crossover, with coupe-like styling, the Q4 that will rival the Range Rover Evoque.
The Audi Q4 is going to be based off the Audi Q5, but will have a more coupe-like roofline, like the larger Q6 and will be launched in 2014/15. According to Autocar, the Q4 is already at the the advanced concept stage and will be based on the same MLB (modular longitudinal architecture) as the Q5 and upcoming Porsche Cajun. It’s expected that the Cajun and Q4 will launch around the same time.
To keep costs down, the Q4 will have dimensions that are similar to the Q5, but with a lower roofline. it will get a more raked windshield than the Q5 and have a large angled liftback-style tailgate.
The Q4 will be available with a list of different engines ranging from a 2.0L diesel to a 3.0L V6 gas engine. A Q4 Hybrid is also a possibility. In addition to the larger Q6 and this Q4, It’s being reported that Audi is also working on an even smaller Q2 crossover.
One Audi insider stated, “It’s clear that demand for SUVs and crossovers is still in an upswing phase and will remain so for some years to come. We want to make sure we have the coverage to satisfy it.”
