Audi has released photos of its new A1 concept that will be on display at the Tokyo Auto Show.
The A1 is Audi’s answer to the popular MINI Cooper, but with a more masculine design. The car is powered by a 1.4L TFSI engine that puts out 150 horsepower and is mated to an S-tronic dual-clutch transmission. There is also a 41 horsepower electric motor in the rear of the car that can deliver more power when it is needed through the rear axle. The lithium-ion powered electric motor is also capable of moving the car on its own, up to 100km. The batteries also can be recharged at any electrical outlet.
Performance of the A1 concept is decent at 0-62mph in 7.8 seconds.
The A1 Metroproject Concept also features an iphone-like device that slots inside the dash. It is named the “Audi mobile device” and is used as an authorization device for the vehicle. It also features Wi-Fi and an MP3 player. The device can unlock the doors for you without the need for a key. It also allows you to turn on the car’s heating system from your house, so that it is nice and toasty for you on those cold mornings.
