Several new models now have Amazon Alexa compatibility, but what if you want to add it to your current car? Well Amazon has just unveiled the new Echo Auto, which is an easy and cheap way to add it to your car or truck.
Amazon Echo Auto features eight microphones that lets Alexa hear you over music, the climate system, and road noise. The Echo Auto device is powered by your car’s 12V power outlet or USB port, and connects to your stereo system through a 3.5 mm audio jack or Bluetooth connection. It also connects to Alexa through the Alexa app on your smartphone.
Once it’s plugged in, Echo Auto connects to Alexa just like the newer models that are fully integrated with the technology. This means that you can simply ask Alexa to hear your morning news, listen to an Audible book on your commute or get the latest traffic updates. You can also set a routine that turns on your lights when you pull into the driveway, set reminders to pick up your dry cleaning, and add errands to your to-do list all while your eyes stay on the road.
As of right now Echo Auto is only available by invitation, but the pricing is pretty easy to swallow at $24.99. The regular price will be $50 when it’s available to everyone.
