Alfa Romeo is slated to introduce a plethora of new models over the next five years – seven to be exact. FCA has released the details of what the Alfa Romeo lineup will look like by 2022, with the big news being the return of the 8C and Gran Turismo Veloce (GTV).
The “8C” badge was last used by Alfa Romeo over a decade ago with the 8C Competizione, but now it’s bringing it back for a new mid-engined coupe that will be powered by a twin-turbocharged engine that sends its power to the rear axle, while an electric motor powers the front. The new 8C will have a combined output of 700 horsepower and will be able to reach 62 mph in under three seconds.
Alfa Romeo’s second new sports car will be the new GTV, which is expected to be a coupe version of the Giulia. The Alfa Romeo GTV will have more than 600 horsepower thanks to its electrified powertrain as it attempts to go head-to-head with the BMW M4, Audi RS5 and Mercedes-AMG C63. The Alfa Romeo GTV will come standard with all-wheel drive with torque vectoring and inside there will be room for four passengers.
Beyond the new sports cars, Alfa Romeo will introduce two new SUVs, one smaller than the Stelvio and one larger. A new Giulietta is planned as well as long wheelbase versions of the Giulia and Stelvio. The only bad news that we can see so far is that it looks like the Alfa Romeo MiTo is being discontinued. By 2022 Alfa Romeo will also offer six plug-in hybrid models.
