Acura is getting ready to say goodbye to the second generation NSX, which will be gone after the 2022 model year. To celebrate the final year of NSX production, Acura is giving the supercar the Type S treatment.

2022 Acura NSX Type S

Every 2022 NSX will be the NSX Type S and only 350 units will be built, with 300 units destined for the U.S. On the outside the NSX Type S has received a facelift with a more distinct face and a sportier rear. At the front the NSX Type S looks more aggressive with its angular air intakes and updated headlights, while the rear gets a larger diffuser. There’s also a new carbon fiber front spoiler that minimizes front aerodynamic lift. It also gets new 5-spoke wheels that increase the track front (+0.4-in.) and rear (+0.8-in.). The wheels are wrapped in unique Pirelli P-Zero tires that were developed specially for the NSX Type S.

Since it’s now a Type S, we were expecting some powertrain upgrades. The Type S is powered by the same 3.5-liter V6 hybrid system as before, but it now generates 600 horsepower and 492 pound-feet of torque. That’s an increase of 27 hp and 16 lb-ft. Acura was able to squeeze out more power thanks to new fuel injectors, new intercoolers and new turbochargers that are shared with the NSX GT3 Evo. The nine-speed dual-clutch transmission has also been retuned to provide a 50 percent faster upshift response and a new Rapid Downshift Mode. Acura also says that it retuned the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system.

2022 Acura NSX Type S

A new Lightweight Package adds carbon ceramic brakes in one of four colors, a carbon engine cover, and carbon interior trim that reduces the total curb weight by approximately 57.8 pounds.

Acura has not announced the 0-60 mph time for the NSX Type S, but it says that it laps the Suzuka Circuit in Japan 2 seconds faster than the 2021 NSX.

Inside we were hoping for some tech upgrades, but we see that isn’t happening. Instead the NSX Type S gets an Alcantara headliner, embroidered Type S logo on the glove compartment and embossed NSX logos on the headrests.

The 2022 NSX Type S will be available in ten colors, including a new Gotham Gray, a clear matte metallic finish. Only 70 units will be available in Gotham Gray.

The pricing for the 2022 Acura NSX Type S starts at $169,500, while the NSX Type S with the Lightweight Package starts at $182,500.
