Ever since the second-generation Acura NSX went on sale there have been rumors about a hotter Type-R version. Earlier this year, Jon Ikeda, Acura’s vice president and general manager even hinted at the idea and now a new report claims that the NSX Type-R could arrive in 2020.

Ikeda told Australia’s Motoring earlier this year, “I’m a car guy, so always faster performance vehicles … yeah we like that, we talk about it. But he stopped short of confirming an NSX Type-R and instead said, “we’ll see … anything can happen. “There’s always proposals.”

The latest report now claims that the NSX Type-R has been given the green light and that it will debut sometime in 2019, before it arrives in 2020. Since Acura has yet to confirm anything, we’ll have to wait and see if the report is accurate. It’s rumored that the Acura NSX Type-R could have up to 641 horsepower, which is a nice bump over the current 573-hp NSX.

There’s also another rumor that Acura is working on an NSX Roadster, which could debut later this year, before the NSX Type-R.
