Acura may soon jump into the compact crossover segment with the arrival of the Acura CDX in the U.S. Acura originally unveiled the CDX crossover at the 2016 Beijing Motor Show, but when it debuted, Acura only planned it for the Chinese market. With the growing popularity of luxury compact crossovers, Acura may have finally decided to bring the CDX here.

Acura CDX Patent

Earlier this year Jon Ikeda, group vice president Acura U.S. revealed interest in bringing the Acura CDX to North America and that Acura was currently studying the idea. But even though Acura hasn’t officially announced its arrival, Acura recently filed a patent for the design of the CDX with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The design patent was recently caught by Bozi Tatarevic, a The Truth About Cars contributor.

While a patent filing doesn’t always mean that a design is headed to production, it does provide some proof that Acura is looking at the CDX for this market.

Last year I also caught a Chinese-badged CDX driving around the streets of Los Angeles.

With the success of the Infiniti QX30 and the arrival of the Lexus UX crossover, Acura definitely needs to add a smaller crossover to its lineup.
