John Edwards, the head of Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division has confirmed that the division is working on a line of more extreme off-road models.
“There are four different types of cars we want to do at SVO,” John Edwards stated. “There are on-road performance cars, all-terrain performance cars that we haven’t done so far, luxury derivatives and what we’re calling collector’s editions, like the Project 7.”

The division has already unveiled the Range Rover Sport SVR, which is a high-performance on-road model, so now the division wants to develop a model that showcases Land Rover’s all-terrain capability. “Land Rover has that all-terrain capability built into all its products, but we need to give customers the permission to use it.”
Edwards did not reveal which model will be the first to get the “off-road” focused trim, but he did state “It’s clearly going to be more obvious on a Defender than a Range Rover, but in a funny way there’s more of an opportunity on a Range Rover.”
