With the introduction of two limited-run sports cars for the 2027 model year, Subaru is marking a couple of significant milestones in a way that should appeal to any true enthusiast. The 2027 WRX GD25 and 2027 BRZ ZC15 were unveiled at Boxerfest 2026, and they bring with them a host of STI and performance enhancements, manual gearboxes and heritage colors befitting some of the brand’s most fun-to-drive offerings.
There is method to the nomenclature. The GD25 is a nod to the GD-chassis WRX that came to the U.S. a quarter century ago, while the ZC15 nameplate has been chosen to denote 15 years since the ZC-chassis BRZ was unveiled. And to make these models all the more exclusive than what you will find in the regular lineup, Subaru is capping production at 350 units for the WRX and 300 for the BRZ.
2027 Subaru WRX GD25: A Throwback to the U.S. Original
For those who recall the fuss over the WRX’s U.S. debut in the early 2000s, the GD25 will be an old friend.
Subaru has left no doubt as to its rally pedigree here. All WRX GD25s come in World Rally Blue on 19-inch gold alloy wheels, with upgraded Brembo brakes and gold calipers up front and Bridgestone Potenza S007 tires for grip. But the most striking feature is found at the rear.
The car is adorned with a dry carbon-fiber swan-neck wing from Subaru Tecnica International. This is not just for show; according to Subaru it is the very same part you will see on Travis Pastrana’s WRX ARA25L. The chassis has been stiffened with a flexible strut-tower bar and a suspension that has been retuned with stiffer springs and damper calibration. In many ways, it is the sort of factory WRX one might put together after a long study of the STI catalog.
Don’t expect to find an automatic transmission in this special edition.
While the 2.4-liter turbocharged Boxer four-cylinder is the same 271-horsepower unit found in other WRXs and feeds the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system as before, the GD25 is manual only. An STI short shifter comes as standard. The interior has been given the anniversary treatment with Recaro seats featuring black Ultrasuede and red stitching, plus an STI shift knob.
These are the only 350 examples you will see, and they will all be in World Rally Blue with the stick shift. Look for deliveries to start in the summer of 2027.
2027 Subaru BRZ ZC15: Remembering the Original
The BRZ ZC15 is a bit more understated in its approach to nostalgia.
Its moniker harkens back to the 2012 ZC-chassis original, but the styling is meant to call to mind the 2020 BRZ tS. You will find an exclusive Ceramic White finish offset by matte bronze wheels, red Brembo calipers and some bronze graphics on the side sills, with a black decklid spoiler for contrast at the back. A flexible V-bar is also present under the hood. It is nothing like the racy WRX GD25, yet the white and bronze suit the BRZ’s compact size well.
Subaru has not seen fit to add horsepower to the special-edition BRZ. The 2.4-liter naturally aspirated engine is still good for 228 ponies, and it is mated to a six-speed manual that puts power to the rear wheels.
Inside, there is black leather with Bordeaux red inserts not available on other BRZs, an STI aluminum-and-leather short shifter and a ZC15 plaque to let you know you are in one of 300. The BRZ will precede the WRX to market in early 2027.
In the end, the low numbers are perhaps the headline. Between the two editions Subaru is turning out a mere 650 cars. Reservations are on the cards for 2026, though the company has not put a date on when the order books open, nor has it provided pricing or full specs as of yet.
