With the 2027 model year, Nissan is at last putting a hybrid powertrain in the Rogue. But this isn’t your run-of-the-mill approach. The e-POWER system on the Rogue Hybrid eschews convention for something a bit different: the gasoline engine is put to work generating electricity while electric motors do the heavy lifting of turning the wheels.
The all-new Rogue Hybrid will come with a host of changes, from a reworked interior and exterior to new tech and standard dual-motor all-wheel drive. And there is the matter of efficiency; Nissan puts its city rating at an estimated 40 mpg. All of this is available from a starting price of $37,065, including destination.
Dealers can expect the first of these 2027s in the fall of 2026, though Nissan is only introducing the SR with the Technology Package at first. The rest of the lineup, SV through Platinum, won’t be seen until early 2027.
What is under the hood is the story here. In a conventional hybrid the engine and motor can both put power to the road. Not so with the Rogue’s e-POWER setup. Propulsion is left entirely to the electric motors, with the gas engine serving as nothing more than a generator for the battery.
Nissan’s thinking is that it can offer the quiet operation, smooth acceleration and instant torque of an EV without the need for a charging station. They have the credentials to back it up; the Rogue is fitted with third-generation e-POWER and the company has close to 2 million such vehicles sold around the world. That may well put the Rogue in an interesting light vis-a-vis the likes of the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 hybrids.
As for the 40 mpg figure, it is based on Nissan’s own testing rather than an EPA number, so the official fuel-economy could tell a different tale. For now, the automaker has been tight-lipped on other powertrain details like horsepower or highway economy, which will be key when pitting the Rogue against its competition.
One thing that should make the Rogue a pleasure in stop-and-go traffic is the e-Pedal with Smooth Stop. It lets the driver manage most of the acceleration and deceleration, even to a full halt, with the accelerator alone. A welcome relief from the constant footwork between pedals. While EV drivers are used to regenerative braking of this sort, Nissan says it is a class-exclusive in a hybrid SUV.
Then there is the matter of infotainment. The 2027 Rogue Hybrid gets a good deal of new technology. You will find a 12.3-inch screen and Qi2 wireless charging as standard, but those in an SR can opt for a 14.3-inch display. The Platinum comes with that screen as standard. You will also find a more expansive infotainment system in the Rogue, one that has Google and Google Gemini built in to put the company’s AI assistant at your fingertips.
Nissan has seen fit to upgrade the driver-assistance suite too. In addition to ProPILOT Assist, there is Auto Lane Change and Hands-Off Traffic Jam Support on offer. As for safety, automatic emergency braking and Intelligent Lane Intervention are part of the standard package, as are Blind Spot Warning and Intervention and Lane Departure Warning.
With the hybrid comes a complete redesign. Nissan touts the exterior as being of a more modern persuasion, with some Japanese-inspired flourishes worked into the body. The interior approach is different; instead of shunting every function to a touchscreen, the new digital displays are paired with physical controls.
There are a number of thoughtful touches for families as well. The rear doors open to nearly 90 degrees to make loading up the kids or fitting in a child seat much less of an ordeal. And with five LATCH anchors, you have the flexibility to position seats where you need them, even in the center spot. You won’t see such things headlining a spec sheet, but they are the kind of details that make living with a family SUV simpler on a day-to-day basis.
The 2027 Nissan Rogue Hybrid SV AWD starts at $37,065 including destination. Adding the SV Premium Package brings the price to $39,165. The Rogue Hybrid SR starts at $39,065, while the SR with the Technology Package comes in at $43,065. That model will be the first to arrive at dealerships in fall 2026. At the top of the lineup, the 2027 Rogue Hybrid Platinum AWD starts at $45,065 and arrives in early 2027.
