Mercedes-Benz has shown off the revised 2027 GLS, and it has substantial improvements in its technology, how comfortable it is, and the engines available. This full-size luxury SUV – often called the “S-Class of SUVs” – gains new engines which are partially electric, an operating system driven by AI, and a completely redesigned interior with a big focus on comfort for everyone in all three rows.

Most noticeably, Mercedes-Benz’s brand new MB.OS system has been added. This functions as a sort of central, incredibly powerful computer that pulls together and manages almost all of the car’s functions. It employs artificial intelligence, and can be updated with improvements wirelessly, so your GLS will get better with time. The GLS now includes MBUX Superscreen as standard; this stretches across the dashboard and has three screens under a single sheet of glass, and even a screen for the front passenger to enjoy streaming and entertainment.
The GLS’s exterior has been refreshed too, with a new grille that has chrome details and available lighting around the edges, and you can even get a Mercedes star ornament on the hood that lights up. The headlights and taillights are new, and have the Mercedes star shapes built into the design, making the GLS look more modern and instantly recognizable.
Under the hood, the GLS 450 and GLS 580 both have improved engines with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The GLS 580’s V8 now has 530 bhp and 553 lb-ft of torque, and the GLS 450’s six-cylinder engine has been tweaked for better torque and a more responsive feel. Both versions have 4MATIC all-wheel drive as standard, and are quieter and smoother due to more soundproofing and the engine improvements.

The ride is a major priority with this newer GLS. The Airmatic air suspension which comes with the car now uses a system that’s connected to the internet to ‘see’ bumps in the road and adjust the suspension before you hit them. And the optional E-Active Body Control system can control each wheel on its own and examine the road conditions up to 1000 times every second to boost both the comfort and the handling.

Inside, the GLS still prioritizes luxury for those in the back. The optional Executive Rear Seat Package Plus adds massaging seats, screens for entertainment in the rear, and more comfort features that make the second row feel like first class. Mercedes-Benz also say the third row is now spacious enough for adults up to 6’4″, really showing how much the GLS is about everyone being comfortable.
