The next evolution of the AMG GLC is taking shape, and this time Mercedes isn’t hiding the intent. The 2027 Mercedes-AMG GLC 53 4MATIC+ leans harder into performance than its predecessor, pairing a heavily reworked turbocharged inline-six with more aggressive chassis tech—and, for the first time, a Drift Mode in an AMG SUV.

Set to arrive in U.S. dealerships in the second half of 2026, the new GLC 53 will again be offered in both SUV and Coupe body styles. Under the hood sits a revised 3.0-liter inline-six that now makes 443 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque, with a temporary overboost function bumping torque to 472 lb-ft. It’s still a 48-volt mild-hybrid setup, but AMG has clearly sharpened the response and broadened the engine’s powerband compared to the outgoing model.
AMG’s updates go well beyond a simple power increase. The engine features a new cylinder head, revised intake and exhaust ports, a new intake camshaft, a larger intake system, and an updated intercooler. Boost pressure climbs to 21.8 psi, while the electric auxiliary compressor—designed to eliminate turbo lag—now delivers up to 10 hp of instant response. The result, according to AMG, is stronger pull across the rev range and a more eager, high-revving character.
Power is routed through the AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G automatic transmission to AMG Performance 4MATIC+, a fully variable all-wheel-drive system that can shift torque seamlessly between axles—or disconnect the front axle entirely when conditions allow. With the optional AMG Dynamic Plus Package, the GLC 53 gains an electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential and, notably, a Drift Mode that sends power exclusively to the rear wheels. It’s an unusual feature for a compact luxury SUV, and one clearly aimed at enthusiasts rather than casual commuters.
Performance numbers back up the hardware. With the optional Dynamic Plus Package and launch control engaged, AMG claims a 0–60 mph time of 4.1 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph, or 167 mph with the optional package. An updated exhaust system with specific resonators adds a more pronounced soundtrack, complete with crackles on lift-off depending on the selected drive mode.

Chassis updates are equally extensive. The standard AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension uses adaptive damping with Comfort, Sport, and Sport+ settings, offering a wider gap between relaxed daily driving and aggressive corner carving. Braking is handled by a serious setup: 15.4-inch ventilated front discs with four-piston calipers, backed by 14.2-inch rear discs.
Steering also gets attention, with a three-stage AMG parameter system that adjusts effort and feedback based on drive mode. Standard rear-axle steering—capable of up to 2.5 degrees of rear-wheel movement—improves low-speed maneuverability and high-speed stability, making the GLC 53 feel smaller in tight spaces and more planted on fast roads.
For buyers focused on style as much as speed, Mercedes-AMG is offering a Golden Accents Package exclusive to the 2027 model year. Available with Obsidian Black Metallic or Graphite Grey Magno paint, the package adds gold exterior details, 21-inch forged wheels with matching accents, and unique interior trim featuring carbon fiber woven with metallic threads.
