Volvo Wants to go After the BMW 3-Series…Is it Possible?

According to Autocar, Volvo is going to re-position its S40 and S60 models by 2010.

The fate of the Volvo S60 has been questionable for quite sometime as it was rumored that Volvo was planning on discontinuing the model. Now it is being rumored that Volvo is going to position the S60 as more of a BMW 3-Series and Audi A4 competitor in 2009. This means that the new sedan will not grow much in size, but it will get new sharper styling, better handling and an improved interior. The overall styling of the car will be very coupe-esque.

Volvo is also going to drastically change its S40 sedan that is due in 2010. The next S40 could become a five-door hatchback like the Audi A3. The S40 name could also be dropped and replaced with V30.

Will these changes work? It will be nice to see Volvo finally come out with some more “striking” designs. Especially since the current S60 and S40 are incredibly boring compared to the Audi A4/ A3 and the BMW 3-Series.
