Toyota has released a teaser of its new Hybrid-R Concept that is going to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month. The Hybrid-R Concept is based on the Toyota Yaris subcompact, but the Yaris’s tiny four-cylinder has been swapped out with a 400-hp hybrid powertrain.
Toyota says that the Hybrid-R’s powertrain features similar technology to that used by Toyota Racing’s TS030 Hybrid race car in the FIA World Endurance Championship. It combines an internal combustion engine with electric motors to achieve a maximum power output of more than 400 horsepower, which is almost four times as much as the standard Yaris. A dual mode control allows the car’s performance to be tailored to suit either road or racetrack.

Toyota will unveil the Hybrid-R concept on September 10.
