Volkswagen is getting ready to say goodbye to the manual transmission in the GTI, but before it goes away at the end of 2024, VW is introducing the special GTI 380.

2024 VW GTI 380

VW says that the “380” name comes from the Mk8’s internal model code and it’s a nod to the fourth-generation GTI 337 special edition, sold in 2002, which borrowed the internal model code from the Mk1 GTI.

The GTI 380 is standard on all manual GTIs for the 2024 model year. The special edition adds DCC adaptive damping system and multi-spoke gloss black 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels—from the Golf R 20th Anniversary Edition, wrapped in summer performance tires. The exterior also gets a gloss black painted roof, gloss black mirror caps, and red trim.

Colors for the 2024 Golf GTI include Deep Black Pearl, Atlantic Blue Metallic, Kings Red Metallic, Reflex Silver Metallic, Moonstone Gray, and Opal White Pearl, along with Graphite Gray Metallic, which is exclusive to the GTI 380.

Inside there’s a golf-ball inspired manual shift knob and honeycomb accents. S and SE trims feature classic Scalepaper Plaid cloth seats, while Vienna leather is standard on the Autobahn trim and are optional on the SE trim.

The GTI is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. For 2024, you can choose either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch DSG transmission. After 2024 the GTI and on Golf R will only be available with the dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The 2024 Volkswagen Golf GTI 380 will arrive this fall, with a starting price of $32,485 for the GTI 380 S, $37,285 for the GTI 380 SE, and $40,625 for the GTI 380 Autobahn.
