The 2024 Toyota GR Supra continues to impress, largely due to its fantastic 3.0-liter inline-six engine and exhilarating handling. Under the hood, the turbocharged inline-six produces a robust 382 horsepower and 368 lb-ft of torque, delivering the kind of smooth, responsive power that enthusiasts crave.
Acceleration is thrilling, with the GR Supra sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds. The engine’s refined nature and instant torque make for a rewarding driving experience, whether you’re carving through tight corners or cruising on the highway.
For buyers that want a lower price or don’t need as much power, the Supra is available with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It generates 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Unlike the six-cylinder, the four-cylinder engine is only available with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Supra 2.0 needs five seconds to reach 60 mph, but with either engine the top speed is limited to 155 mph. We’ve driven both versions and easily choose the extra performance that the six-cylinder engine brings to the table.
Sadly for the 2025 model year, the four-cylinder has been discontinued.
Handling is another area where the GR Supra excels. With its near-perfect 50/50 weight distribution and finely tuned suspension, the car feels sharp and responsive, offering excellent feedback through the steering wheel. Whether you’re on a track or a twisty back road, the Supra’s balance and poise inspire confidence. The rear-wheel-drive layout adds to the fun, letting you push the car to its limits while remaining in full control. For those who love a pure driving experience, the Supra’s handling is hard to beat in this segment.
That said, the 2024 GR Supra does come with a few compromises. The cabin, while well-appointed with high-quality materials, is snug—especially for taller drivers. The low roofline and limited headroom can make the interior feel a bit cramped, and the tight seating position might not be ideal for everyone on longer drives.
Another common critique of the GR Supra is its heavy reliance on BMW DNA. While Toyota and BMW’s partnership has certainly benefited the Supra in terms of performance, it’s clear that much of the interior design and technology comes directly from BMW. This includes the infotainment system, controls, and overall layout, which can make the car feel more like a rebadged BMW Z4 than a truly distinct Toyota sports car. For some buyers, this might be a drawback, as they may expect more unique Toyota character in the Supra.
The pricing for the 2024 GR Supra 2.0 starts at $47,575, while the GR Supra 3.0 starts at $56,535. For the 2024 model year, there’s a 45th Anniversary Edition, which Toyota says is inspired by the 90’s Supra. It starts at $66,410.
Overall, the 2024 Toyota GR Supra’s fantastic 3.0-liter inline-six engine and thrilling handling make it an excellent choice for driving enthusiasts. The future of the GR Supra remains unclear, since BMW has announced that it will soon discontinue the Supra’s cousin, the BMW Z4.
