Coupes and convertibles have largely disappeared from many automaker’s lineups, since more buyers want SUVs and trucks. The good news is that a few automakers are still trying to keep the coupe and convertible alive for buyers that want a sportier car or love to drive with the top down. Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the 2024 CLE, which is available as either a coupe or convertible.

In the past, Mercedes-Benz built coupe and convertible versions of the C-Class and E-Class models, but those two models have now been merged together to create the CLE-Class. It’s about the same size as the old E-Class coupe, but is supposed to drive with more agility like the old C-Class coupe. It’s a tad longer than the E-Class coupe, while its track is wider than the C-Class coupe.
At launch there will be two version available. The CLE 300 is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. For buyers that want more fun, the CLE 450 is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six, which has 375 horsepower and369 pound-feet. Both engines are mated to a 48-volt mild hybrid system and all-wheel drive is standard.
Inside there’s an 11.9-inch touchscreen display, that runs the latest MBUX infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel. The CLE doesn’t get the “Superscreen” like the E-Class, which means there isn’t a passenger side screen.

Mercedes-Benz hasn’t announced the pricing for the 2024 CLE, but it will arrive in early 2024 and then be followed by the CLE Cabriolet later in 2024.
