General Motors has already introduced the GMC Hummer EV and unveiled the Chevy Silverado EV and now we have our first look at its next electric truck, the 2024 GMC Sierra EV.
The Sierra EV is closely related to the Silverado EV, which is apparent when you look at its styling. The formula is the same as the gas powered Sierra and Chevy Silverado EV. Compared to the Silverado, the Sierra EV gets a unique front fascia and taillights.
At launch the Sierra EV will be only offered in one configuration, a Crew Cab with a 5-foot-11 bed. The first version to arrive will be the Denali Edition 1, which gets the MultiPro tailgate and the new MultiPro midgate. If you fold down the midgate wall between the bed and cabin, you’ll have up to 9 feet of cargo length. Lower the MultiPro tailgate’s load-stop and you have space for items that are up to 11 feet long.
The Sierra EV will be powered by the same electric powertrain and Ultium platform as the Silverado EV, but the Sierra Denali Edition 1 version has a bit more power. GMC estimates that it has 754 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque in Max Power mode. That’s an increase of 94 hp and 5 lb-ft. over the Silverado EV RST. GMC says that the Sierra EV can accelerate from 0-60 mph in under 4.5 seconds.
The Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 has a 9.500 pound towing capacity, which is weirdly 500 pounds less than the Silverado RST’s rating. The Sierra EV will have a driving range around 400 miles. If you plug it into a DC fast charging port, the Sierra EV’s 350-kilowatt charging capability means you can add about 100 miles in 10 minutes. The Sierra EV will also feature a 10.2-kW Power Station Pro inverter system with 10 onboard AC outlets that can be used to power tools and other accessories. If you connect it to a bidirectional home charger, the Sierra EV can power your house for up to 21 days.
Inside the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1’s cabin features open-pore wood and aluminum trim, quilted seats and a panoramic glass roof. In front of the driver there’s an 11-inch digital instrument cluster, while the dashboard gets a portrait oriented 16.8-inch touchscreen. The Denali Edition 1 also comes standard with GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving tech.
GMC is now taking reservations for the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1, which starts at $108,695. More affordable versions are slated to arrive later, like the Sierra EV AT4 and Elevation versions that will arrive for the 2025 model year. Once all the Sierra EV models are introduced, GM expects the starting price to be around $50,000. The first deliveries are scheduled for early 2024.
