The 2024 Acura TLX Type S is a standout in the midsize luxury sedan market, offering a near perfect combination of performance and style. As a performance-oriented version, the TLX Type S features sporty styling an impressive powertrain under the hood and agile handling.

2024 Acura TLX Type S Review

Under the hood, the TLX Type S is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine with 355 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. This engine is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission and the suburb SH-AWD system. The V6 has a decent amount of power, but what truly sets the TLX Type S apart is its exceptional suspension, steering, and braking.

The adaptive damper system provides a perfect balance between comfort and sportiness, absorbing road imperfections while maintaining limiting body roll through corners. The excellent steering offers excellent feedback, while the high-performance Brembo brakes deliver strong stopping power. With a curb weight over 4,200 pounds, the TLX Type S could go on a diet, which would make it even more fun to drive.

Visually, the 2024 TLX Type S is a head-turner. Its sleek and aggressive design is complemented by sharp lines, a bold front grille, quad exhaust tips and 20-inch alloy wheels. The interior continues the theme with high-quality materials, supportive sport seats, and a driver-centric cockpit that exudes luxury and sophistication. But there are a few things that we dinged it for inside.

While the front seats provide ample comfort and support, the rear legroom is one area where the TLX Type S falls short. Taller passengers may find the backseat cramped. You might find it interesting considering how the TLX has a larger footprint, than say a BMW 3-Series, but its rear seat space is more on par with the 3-Series than the larger BMW 5-Series.

Another notable downside is the infotainment system. Despite featuring a 12.3-inch display the interface is quiet frustrating to use. The touchpad controller is not as intuitive as competitors’ touchscreen systems, often requiring multiple attempts to select the desired function, which can be distracting while driving. The good news is that Acura recently introduced a new touchscreen in the 2025 MDX, so hopefully the TLX will also eventually get the much better system.

2024 Acura TLX Type S Review

The pricing for the 2024 Acura TLX Type S starts at $58,195, including destination. If that price is a bit steep for you, the standard TLX with front-wheel drive starts at $46,195.

At the end of the day 2024 Acura TLX Type S is a compelling choice for those seeking a sporty and luxurious midsize sedan. Its turbocharged V6, exceptional suspension, great steering, and strong braking performance make it very fun to drive.
