The next-generation Subaru WRX is almost here, since Subaru has released the first teaser of the 2022 WRX. This is our first look at the new WRX, but we still don’t know when it will debut, since Subaru is only saying that it will “debut this year.”

We do know that the 2022 WRX will be based on the same platform as the Impreza, which debuted back in 2016. That may seem a while ago, but the current WRX is based on the last-generation Impreza, which arrived in 2011. We still can’t see much in this teaser, but we do know that the new WRX will borrow design cues from the Subaru Levorg.

What we don’t know is what will power the new WRX. It could get an updated version of the current turbocharged 2.0-liter flat-4 or it could get the turbocharged 2.4-liter that powers the Ascent, Legacy and Outback.

Stay tuned.
