A new report claims that the 2022 Ford Mustang GT and Mach 1 models will lose 10 horsepower and 10 pound-feet of torque when they arrive early next year. A source confirmed the bad news to Ford Authority.
It’s not known why the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 is losing some power, but it’s likely new emissions requirements that have reduced the engine’s output. If the report is accurate that means that the 2022 Mustang GT will have 450 hp and 410 lb-ft. of torque, while the Mach 1 will have 470 hp and 410 lb-ft.
The good news is that the 2022 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 will keep its same power figures, since it’s powered by the supercharged 5.2-liter Predator V8.
For now we’ll have to wait until Ford officially announces all the changes to the 2022 Mustang to see if this report is true.
