Just a few days ago Volvo unveiled the all-new 2019 Volvo S60 in South Carolina. Volvo also confirmed that the next-generation XC90 SUV will arrive in 2021 and now we’re hearing that it will be available with level 4 autonomous driving technology.
Volvo Senior Vice President Henrik Green revealed to The Car Connection that the next-generation Volvo XC90 will offer Volvo’s new Highway Assist self driving technology. Green said that the technology will be able to transport “sleeping passengers” to their destination on the highway.
The level 4 autonomous driving technology is a huge step beyond the current systems that are available today. Volvo’s Highway Assist system will lidar, radar, and cameras to help it drive without any intervention from the driver. The system will also cloud-based information to drive the car, instead of vehicle to infrastructure communications systems.
